Magic is a gift that is purely genetic. While powers require a mere thought to activate, magic requires verbal words/gestures. The result can be far more precise than powers. There are several differences between powers and magic. Only creatures can inherit magic, and it must run in the family.
There are three levels of magic inheritance. Full genes (complete control). Half genes (partial control). Dry (no magic whatsoever.)- Magic: Control over timing. While powers are "use in the moment," with magic you can plan for a certain spell to trigger at a certain time with some extra wording.
- Magic: It's very rare to have it. Magic in itself is rare, but to inherit full compatibility, or full genes, is even more so. At most, magic users can only cast a few spells. However, somewhere out there there are a few lucky creatures out there who have full genes and can glyph to the ends of the earth.
- Magic: Takes longer to cast. The more complicated the spell, the longer the set up. It can get pretty lengthy.
- Magic: You can combine elements freely. For example, let's say you wanted to shoot a projectile that is a mixture of fire and earth. Do so using powers, you'd have to use fire and then earth, or vice versa. If you wanted to use magic, all you'd have to do is cast once to make a fire-earth emulsion.
